On attendait un Come-back retentissant, un show exceptionnel, bref, le retour de Miss Spears. Cependant, à l'heure du bilan, la performance semble manquer cruellement de Peps...

Que s'est-il passé ce soir là aux VMA de Las Vegas ?

Rappel des faits. Quelques heures avant le début du programme, MTV fait savoir à Britney qu'elle doit changer ses plans. Exit le numéro aérien, sensuel et ultra chorégraphié, préparé avec le célèbre Chriss Angel. Pourquoi vouloir gâcher la performance au dernier moment ? La réponse est simple : MTV a peur de présenter une danse trop "provocante", avec une Britney Spears trop sexy. Tant pis si elle ne pourra jamais convenablement préparer un nouveau show...

Juste avant de monter sur scène, Britney entend Sarah Silverman, comédienne et animatrice du show, déclamer un monologue vulgaire et acide. Les mots sont durs, et la princesse pop est lourdement attaquée dans son rôle de mère. La coupe est pleine pour Britney, elle menace MTV de tout annuler : ils n'ont pas respecté leur promesse de ne pas aborder sa vie privée.

Le dilemme est alors de taille. Soit Britney quitte Las Vegas, sans performer son nouveau titre Gimme More, et avec l'absolue certitude de provoquer un scandale sans précédent, suivi d'un flot d'insulte de journalistes ignorants ; soit elle reste envers et contre tout, tentant de soigner ses plaies et de faire taire ses détracteurs.

Britney pleure en coulisse, mais apparait sexy en diable au levé de rideau. Comme absente, elle chante en play-back son nouveau tube, Gimme More. Pas extraordinaire, mais pas non plus catastrophique, le retour de Britney Spears était attendu par tous. Dommage que personne chez MTV n'ait joué le jeu.
